Deleting icons from g1 desktop

when i try to touch the icon it opens up the ap so it wont let me hold it in order to move it, is there a way to delete it without using the touch screen.

I'm a pretty new user myself and when I initially tried to move icons on the home screen I had similar issues. Turns out you've really just got to give it a good long press. The phone will give a brief vibration to let you know you've got hold of the thing and can now move it to the apps tab, which now has a trash can icon. Seems like you've just got top develop a feel for it, much like the physical keyboard.
