HTC G1 Update

I recently sent my phone of for repair because of Network troubles and when they sent the phone back they have degraded Firmware Version 1.5. However i didnt have 1.6 before and i am not getting a request to update my phone. Iv been looking around for a manual way to do and i have seen some links do download it and put it on the memory stick to do the update however people have said they update hasent work properly and others say it has any ideas?

The reason why it prolly worked on some and not others is the people it didn't work on they prolly tried to install a modified 1.6 version on a non rooted phone. Here's a guide on how to install the official 1.6 firmware on a non rooted phone.
