I was bored today and, after reading I can install Debian on my phone last night, decided to set off to do that. Got through the rooting procedure just fine. Now I sit here with a rooted G1 and I'm a bit unsure where to go next. I'd like to get Debian still but I probably won't do that immediately...I'm kinda tired of messing with this thing right now...lol. I've noticed a few pros and cons of doing this though:
Pros: The obvious world that opens up to you when you root...all the apps you can run and all that.
The ROM I have, JF1.41 allows multitouch which is kinda cool.
Cons: I'll have to completely re-set-up my phone again. I backed up my SD before doing this cuz I knew formatting it would erase it, so that's no big deal but having to reinstall my apps is a bit of a pain. Oh well I guess. Only problem here is that some progs don't want to install now with the custom stuff I have on the phone.
I don't have my V-keyboard any more! I used that thing A LOT! How can I get the Cupcake functionality (V-keyboard is gone...I assume a2dp is as well...) AND have root access still? I'd imagine I just have to download and install the right ROM but I dunno.
Is there a way to go back to how it was if I feel like it? Cuz I really don't know what to do now...lol The thing did MORE before rooting than it does now! I'd like to get some skins and stuff but don't really care a whole lot about all that...I just dunno what to do now.
I'm pretty scatterbrained right now. Been messing with this thing for over 4 hrs now and my mind is swirling. So, to keep it simple:
What should I do now?
Can I go back to normal Cupcake if I want?
Anyone here get Debian running on their phone?
How can I keep root AND have the Cupcake stuff (V-keyboard, for instance)
Any info, words of wisdom, insight, links, whatever is greatly appreciated!
