I have a G1, and it use to work, but when the screen "timed out" and went dark so it doesn't use up as much battery, it would take me pushing "power, then menu, then power, then menu" over and over again until the screen finally clicked on to allow me to go to the main screen.
Well, to aleviate this, I just turned my settings to "never timeout", so that way the screen always stays on.
Well, my friend was using my phone today, and he hit the power button to turn the screen dark..... now my phone won't turn on. It just shows me this when booting up:

The error reads line for line:

Ok, I should add that this phone was bought in February 2009. I am paying for the insurance on it, but they say that it would still cost me $139 for insurance to replace it. What the hell? This phone should be working, and I definately shouldn't have to pay that much seeing I have insurance.
Any idea what is wrong with my phone, and how to fix it, if it's even possible? Thanks.
I should add that I have done the Home & Power button and did the Alt + W reset, but that leads me to that same screen. When I do an Alt + L to see the list of commands, the first line says that...
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command.
Also, I'm pretty sure that before that screen, it flashes a gray screen that says "no image file found". I can only assume something in the opperating system is messed up and it needs to be formatted and basically re-installed. Any ideas? I'm grasping at straws here, but I'm so mad that this phone has been a headache since day 1 and now has taken a full **bleep** on me.

Pete

If you bought your phone thru t-mobile you still have the 1yr factory warranty. Your insurance should not be used. Thats for stuff like dropping the phone and breaking it. I had a problem with the software on my phone and called t-mobile and in less than 5 mins they had all my info and shipped me a new one. Once I got the new one I put the old phone back in the box and sent it back. Call them and send it back. But since i'm replying to this and it was back on the 14th you probably have resolved your problem.

yeah, I did just that. They shipped me a new phone, it arrived overnight, even though overnight shipping wasn't an option, which impressed the hell out of me. Then I just boxed up my old phone and mailed it back to them.
Ohh, and 2 days ago I got the cupcake update
