How can i keep the screen on while on a call?

i pay alot of bills over the phone and i always have to put in account information by pressing the numbers, which is very annoying when the screen dimms out every 5 seconds. is there a way i can keep the screen on while im in a call?... i tried setting the screen time out to "never" . but it seems screen time out doesnt apply when your on a call. there doesnt seem to be a setting for it.. did i miss something?

app called "shake-awake". Notices when you move the phone and turns the screen back on to the last image.

Its a life saver.
