I keep having to input CAPCHA.
My phone frequently has a pop-up box that stops me from doing anything. It says "Google Sign-in" and it has the CATCHA box.
I have a HTC EVO 4G, with an aftermarket battery. I am on wifi a lot as I live in an area with a lot of free wifi and I have wifi at home and at my girlfriend's house. I have had Android since the Dev G1, but never had this with the G1.
The problem is, I have to enter it (the CAPTCHA sequence) several times a day, and it only seems to pop up when I try to do something, like answer the phone or type a text message. Since I have no keyboard, these arbitrary sequences of letters are a real pain. About half the time it makes me enter two sequences of letters----I do not know if that means I did the first set wrong or what, but I have to do CAPTCHA every day.
I have never received a response from the official Google threads, not once.
I missed another call today and I'm tired of it. Does google really think I'm a computer or what? I called Sprint, they said it's not a problem with a phone and I should stop using google apps to prevent the problem. I could not contact HTC.
I am not rooted, everything is legit and official, I just keep missing functional applications with my phone due to Google Sign In and CAPTCHA. Has anyone else ever had to do this or figured out a solution?

Alright I will give you a hand finding a solution.
Few things I am not positive on whats going on though.
I do not or have not had this problem. I don't think I have had to enter CAPTCHA for anything thing I have done/viewed on my phone yet.
This is what I have so far:
You are on the HTC Evo 4G
You are mostly using the Wifi-Connect instead of the 3G/4G option.
Now do you still have this same issue using 3G/4G?
Now I guess I am a bit confused too you say when you get Phone Calls and Text messages to view the texts or make/receive a phone call you get sent to something by google to make you enter a CAPTCHA in order to use the phone/text?
You also said you have no Keyboard? When you click the box to enter the CAPTCHA a keyboard does not popup?
Or do you have it disabled where you are using Google Voice only or something?
What Web Browser are you using on your phone?
Is it possible for you to use another phone or a digital camera and then make a video recording of whats going on? Because honestly this sounds really weird and I have never experienced it. I also view a bunch of Evo related threads and I have never heard/seen of any issues like this.
I think Honestly what I would do is Back up your Contacts:
Go to: Your App Box (the button above the home button) > Click on the People App > Press Menu > Press Import/Export > Export to SDCard Then Back up your Google and your Phone.
Next you can get a program to backup your Applications if you like: A good application is called MyBackup Pro. I think its like 4 bucks on the Market. But it will backup and upload your applications to a server for you.
Personally after doing this I would not bother with it. Write down any applications you like or had installed on your phone that you want back when you reset your phone.
Google saves the info of anything that you actually paid for from the Android Market: So you do not have to worry about buying the items again.
But its up to you MyBackUp Pro will most likely save you a bit of time.
Next after all of your backups are complete plug your phone in to your PC/Laptop using the USB Cord and Mount the SD Card so you can view the files on your phones SD Card.
Make a folder on your desktop and call it "Phone Backup" and then on your SD Card you can highlight all of the files and copy them then paste them in to your "Phone Backup" folder on your desktop.
Next we will do a Factory reset on your phone: (Note: all data including third-party applications will be deleted from the phone.)
Their is two ways of doing this: This is the easiest way:
Press the Home button > Press Menu > Tap Settings > Tap SD & Phone Storage > At the Bottom you will see Factory Data reset: Press this - You will see a Warning page and below what it tells you its going to erase you will see Reset.
Go ahead and reset the phone. The phone should reboot once it is done.
On the phone starts back up it will be like the first day you got it again.
This is what I would do: It will ask you to setup your Google Account:
Do this: Input your username and password then click next.
When it asks you if you want to setup your facebook/twitter click SKIP.
The reason I do this is because if I don't I end up with a huge contact list of all my facebook people. I don't want my phone filled up with peoples numbers I will never call.
Now once you get back in to the phone and you can start doing stuff again click on:
Home > Menu > Settings > Scroll all the way down to System Updates > Now Click on Update Firmware, once its done do Update profile, once thats done Update PRL, once thats done check for HTC Software Updates.
Now you may or may not end up with any updates. But you should check just to be sure.
Next import your contacts back to your phone using the same method we did above but instead of exporting you will import the files you exported earlier.
Once this is done you can go ahead and install all your applications again. Setup your facebook accounts.. etc. etc..
Then go ahead and check and see if your still having the same issues with your phone with google n such.
BTW: You will lose all your Wifi Passwords doing that reset too. So if you have any networks that require a password. Grab them and write them down before you do the reset.
If you don't end up doing any of this we can still try and figure out your problem, but like I said get me a video of what it is doing because it seems odd to me.

Also, you asked if I still have the issue under 3G/4G
I've never been under 4G, but come to think of it, the problem is usually when I'm connected via wifi, but not exclusive to it (I've had to do it under 3G too). That may simply be a side effect of being under wifi most of the time when I am at work or at home or at other friends' houses, etc---I'm almost always on wifi.

My last post had picture links in it for the google sign-in, therefore (I think) it's under review by the admins, but keep an eye out.

I will ask one of the Admins if they can review this topic and make sure the images show up.
I have my phone on Wifi right now at home, and I cannot get anything to do what you are saying your phone does lol.

I'm not sure if this helps or not, but I can't FORCE the problem to happen.
However, it does happen most often when I try to do a google voice search or a google search more than anything else I can think of. I don't think wifi is the problem (it has happened on 3G), but it's just that I'm on wifi so often that the problem happening under wifi may simply be a coincidence.
Also, gmail still isn't pushing. I have reset all values through the app manager, but still, no dice, no push, no automatic sync, etc.

I have gone through all of my settings.
What Browser you using? How come you dont have a keyboard? Are you using The Voice app only?
I have talked with a few people this morning in HTC Evo Chat on an IRC Server and no one has heard or had this problem.
So I am still suggesting a factory reset/wipe.

Just the stock browser. I don't browse much though.
I do have a keyboard, but the info is in the pending response from the admins to post it because it has pics of the screen with the Google sign-in request and CAPTCHA. The keyboard I use is swiftkey, it works great, but it's tricky to input words that "aren't" words, that's the trick.
Yeah. Nobody has heard of this problem. And google has no support. I don't understand that---I would pay for support for me and all my employees for google domains. It's frustrating. I am afraid to factory reset because I do not know if it will fix it since this is a brand new phone (and it never happened on my Dev G1 which I had for 2 years).
I will wait until the picture is hopefully posted here----I won't factory reset until this weekend, regardless.
Here are some links, not sure if they will work but they are for the pictures.

Interesting..
Lets try this:
Tap Home > Menu > Settings > Accounts and Sync
In here you should see your google account:
Click on it, down at the bottom you should see Remove Account.
If you have more then one Google account on your phone remove it as well.
Reboot the phone.
Go back in to Accounts and Sync when it starts back up. Re-Add the account.
using the Add account option.
Swap to the default keyboard and then re-enter the account and password.
Make sure you type the password right..
It might be possible the CAPTCHA got caught in a loop on the account in the phone. Which might be causing this.
Hopefully a fresh install of the account w/ no errors will fix it.

Thanks for the reply.
The problem with this is when I try to remove the account, it says "This account is required by some application, you can only remove it by resetting the phone to factory defaults." In other words, I might as well wipe it anyway.
Here is my first reply, but with modified links to the pictures:
Thanks for the reply.
It turns out, now my phone isn't syncing. Well, maybe it's syncing gmail sometimes, but it's definitely not "pushing" to get emails as they arrive----I have to do a manual refresh of my inbox to receive mail. Not good.
Is a total reset of all my settings really the only option? That seems pretty harsh. I mean, it's a new phone----am I going to have to do this again anyway? Should I even bother putting apps on my phone if I have to keep erasing them? Settings, widgets, icons, etc?
I tried to take some pictures---this is the best I could get with my dev G1 phone pointed at the EVO 4G. You can see it says "Google sign-in" but doesn't specify why. The letters, I mean, it's not so bad on a PC, and the EVO has a big enough screen, but it's still hard to read them sometimes.
I do have an on-screen keyboard, but what I mean is that I use a predicative keybaord and it's difficult to type in arbitrary sequences of letters-----I can never do it quickly enough to answer a phone call when the sign-in appears.
I have installed mybackup and backed up my apps, contacts, bookmarks, etc. I will wait for a reply before doing a complete reset though----I really don't want to have to do that, and I'm afraid of what I'd do if it doesn't fix the issue.
