2.2 to 2.1 Then Root to 2.2 is out!

Topic sound confusing?

This is whats up, the unrevoked dev team has been working night and day to bring the HTC Evo The Official "Root" ability to the HTC Evo's that have the Official OTA Android 2.2 Update.

So far they have not had any luck doing so, some of the HTC Evo Owners have grown tired of waiting. Now the wait is over to get "Rooted".

Only thing you have to do though is Downgrade your Stock Android 2.2 OS back to the Android 2.1 OS.

Once you do this you can then Download Unrevoked "Root Kit" to upgrade back to Android 2.2 but now you will be fully "Rooted".

It is pretty much step by step. The user who figured this process out put these directions up last night / this morning: 8-26-10 (8am)
He said he will re-write the step by step directions when he wakes up later today to make them clearer for people who may not understand what to do.

I have not done this to my phone. I am not 100% sure yet I am going to, I had planned on just waiting for the Official 2.2 Root from Unrevoked and I may just continue to wait.

If anyone here does try this method out please post back with your results! I would love to know how it went!

I've gone through the steps outlined and get stuck loading PC36IMG.zip. My phone gets to

Checking .. [PC36IMG.zip]

and then goes back to the HBOOT screen (with the options under it being FASTBOOT, RECOVERY, etc..).

Any ideas on how to get around this?

If its not reading your PC36IMG file chances are it might be corrupt or missing a file inside of it.

What I would do is delete everything you downloaded for the root process.
Then re-download it all: Then Watch these two videos below its a step by step process on how to downgrade from 2.2 to 2.1 then installing a 2.1 Root then it installs the 2.2 Rooted Stock ROM.

That's exactly what the problem was. The original file I downloaded was ~40M. Subsequent downloads, even from the mirror site, were approximately the same size.

I switched browsers from Chrome to IE and the entire file downloaded properly. Ironic!

lol crazy! I did not even think to ask you the size of the zip file so I could compare it to the one I used.

I am glad you got it worked out though! Good luck on the root!
