Can someone explain in detail how I can convert all my data - contact list as well as calendar - from my Palm Centro to be used in the Evo? Thanks

I am not sure to be honest. If you take your Palm to the Sprint store they will transfer all the data including contacts to your new phone for you though for free.

Hrmm.. Thats pretty dumb. I don't use Google anything really on my phone. But I have heard people were syncing there old Phones somehow with Google Contacts? (That might not be right) but the Evo I guess will pick up all your contacts off of the Google Contacts program. (I think its contacts you setup from Gmail.) Maybe see if you can get gmail on your Palm and get it to take in your contact list and then you can transfer those contacts to your new phone.

I manually moved all my contacts but would also like to know how to move my calendar info & pictures/videos. If you have found out how to do this I would sooo appreciate the assistance.

Have you tried Goosync for the calendar? For pics and videos you can bluetooth them to the new device or transfer them to your PC then to the Evo.

Goosync works, but it's not completely comprehensive. If you have Custom fields, those don't get transferred over; these seem to be the hardest thing to get moved over.

What you can do is export all your contacts from PalmDesktop and then import them into Google Contacts (via GMail, contacts link). Again, this doesn't bring over custom fields.

I've been (slowly) working on an Excel script that converts the Palm Desktop CSV output to a format you can import into GMail Contacts, consolidating the Custom note fields into the single (Google Contact's) Note field.

Hi,
1. Don?t trust anything customer service says. You probably know more than they do.
2. I had the store transfer all my contacts. The problem was I had them in a few categories and they can only transfer to one folder/catagory. That?s over 6,000 contacts in one folder.
3. Backup your Centro and copy your data folder in case there is some mess up you have all your data safe.
4. From the Control Panel, delete/uninstall Palm.
5. Go to Palmone web site and download it again.
6. When it installs, although everything was deleted, it will pick up your old data and ask you if you want it to reinstall just the basics like contacts, memo, to do etc or all programs. Choose just the basics.
7. Then it will ask you the most important question: do you want palm desktop or ?Outlook?. Choose outlook.
8. After the process is finished, you should have all hour info in the outlook contacts.
9. I need to digress a moment. I tried to export from my Palm desktop as a CSV ? per instruction from Google contacts that it imports CSV. Also, files are to be limited to 3000 contact during export/import. I did save my file as CSV but Google contacts would not recognize it.
10. Before I imported from Outlook, I made the folders I needed in Google contacts.
11. I took all contacts I had in Google and moved them to a folders I was not going to use, so if things don?t work at lease I have them all in one file.
12. I exported from Outlook to my desktop just 3000 contacts. When I imported that file I had all my 6000 contacts in the correct folders.
13. I called customer S. to ask them how I remove the contacts from my ?phone?. They said the only way to do it is a hard reset, which I did not want to do as I downloaded software and set up the phone.
14. In the end, I deleted all contacts from the Google contacts and the sync it (remotely, not by wire backup). It deleted all contacts on my phone.
15. I imported all contacts as mentioned in # 12.
16. Sync it again?and there it was.
I will not start to even talk about lack of sorting, find feature, etc. etc.
Hope this was helpful

Sam
