This will be tip's to Improving the Battery Life on your HTC Evo 4G Phone.

Also check out this site for other tips on the HTC Evo Phone the person who runs the web blog has had his phone for about 2 weeks before the actual release date. He offers many good tips/tricks for the phone.

On to the Battery tips!

Larger Capacity Battery:

Seidio Innocell 1750mAh Extended Battery
Currently this is the only larger capacity battery out for the Evo 4G.
Due to the reviews I have read on this battery I would not consider buying this item for my phone.
Mostly all of the reviews I have read stated that these battery are on-par if not worse then the OEM Battery's.
Best bet is just buy another OEM HTC Battery and call it a day!

20 Tips to Improve Battery Life on your HTC Evo 4G:

1. Lower screen brightness. Go to Settings -> Sound & display -> Brightness. Slide the brightness switch to the left to lower it or check the "Automatic brightness" box to let the EVO use its sensors to adjust the screen according to the ambient light. You can also find dedicated screen brightness widgets in Android Market.

2. Turn off 4G, WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth when you don't need them. The easiest way to manage these wireless radios is to use the Settings widget preinstalled on your EVO. Tap the + button on your home screen -> Widget -> Settings. Once your chosen widgets are on any of your home screens, a simple tap turns each one on/off. There are other widgets that do this in Android Market, but these are already preinstalled and they're a nice-looking set.

3. Disable WiFi and 4G network notifications. Go to Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Wi-Fi settings. Uncheck the Network notification box so the EVO isn't constantly scanning and looking for open networks to tell you about. For 4G, go to Settings -> Wireless & networks -> 4G settings.

4. Disable "always on" mobile data. This is one of the biggest battery savers. Go to Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Mobile networks. Tap "Enable always-on mobile data" to uncheck the box. I haven't found a negative consequence of disabling this feature, as Gmail and other apps/functions still work perfectly.

5. Turn off background data. If you're not using Google services, go to Settings -> Accounts & sync and uncheck the Background data box so that applications cannot sync, send, and receive data whenever they want to.

6. Lower the screen timeout interval. The EVO's screen can be set to automatically turn off when you don't interact with it for a predetermined amount of time: 15 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes, 10 minutes, or never. Depending on what you're doing, a too-short interval can become annoying (especially if you didn't disable your lock screen), so choose wisely.

7. Manually turn off the screen when not in use. Since the screen timeout function ensures that the EVO's screen will turn off (unless you have it set to "never turn off"), it can be tempting to put the phone down when you're done using it and just let the screen turn off by itself. Instead, give the power button at the top of the EVO a quick push to turn it off manually.

8. Turn off auto-sync. Go to Settings -> Accounts & sync -> Auto-sync.

9. Change auto-sync frequency (Weather, News, Stocks, Twitter, etc). If you don't want to turn off auto-sync, you can adjust how frequently data is retrieved/updated. The settings vary depending on the app (and some don't offer the setting at all), but it's generally found in the same place: Settings -> Accounts & sync. Select an account from the list and then tap "Account settings" to change the sync frequency.

10. Disable wireless network location services when not needed. Go to Settings -> Location -> Use wireless networks. Note that this (or one of the other options) needs to be enabled if you want to see and/or use your location in apps like Maps.

So having the phone for a week now, I thought I would comment on my battery life.

For the most part its pretty good. I have a Task Killer on my phone, and I use it to kill all my apps before I turn off the screen.

I do not have GPS / 4G / Bluetooth /Wi-Fi enabled on my phone unless I plan to use it.

The phone gets pretty decent battery life with these settings off. I can normally go through an entire work day with out having to re-charge the phone. (+/- 8Hrs)

Where I work is a bit rough though I am right on the boarder of Canada, so the phone will go in and out of Roaming all the time some of the time it has no signal at all. Which is very very harsh on my battery.

I was reading online someone said to turn off the Google Talk feature because it stays running constantly in the background and its always updating things. So I gave this a try. I honestly think setting it to not Auto-Login gave me about an extra hour or so of Battery life.

Heres how: Go to your Apps: > Open "Talk" > Press the Menu Button: > Press "More" > Press "Settings" > Un-check the "Automatic Login".

All this is going to do is when you turn on your phone Google Talk will not Auto turn on and start draining your battery. If you use Google Talk then just open it when you want to use it.

Be sure though when you are finished using it you go to"Menu" > "More" > "Sign-out"
Then you will know this app will not be running in the background killing the battery.

Hope this gives your battery some extra life!

It is 11:32 pm and I still have 29% battery. Yesterday I found the really big battery drain problem. It is related to GOOGLE talk. Probably thay is why the task killer show some improvement. The recipe is simple. Go to you gmail page in you PC and turn off google chat. Go to your HTC EVO 4G and in settings for google talk turn everything off. I found the issue observing that even after I had erased all my new applications and having reduced sync time for everything I would still see the 3G arrows going nuts. Now I have all my games and applications back and it works beautifull...!!!!!

I'm fed up with the sucky battery life. I walked into the woods at 4pm with 95% charge the other day for an evening of deer hunting (Translation: me sitting in a tree texting & playing games) and by 6:30 I am down to 15% or less.

This is simple not acceptable.

Nothing I have tried yet has actually given me REAL extended battery life, and still be able to USE the freakin' phone and it's capabilities.

So has anyone stepped up to a larger battery? I am thinking that is the only option I have left.

I have ready people are using those 3500 battery's and they are working good.
I just got back from California. My Phone is Rooted w/ Fresh 3.1 Rom.
I went in to Blizzcon at 6am and left around 7pm and my battery was half drained.
Did a little bit of texting (not much) and twitter was running in the background the whole time.
After 7pm I went to a restaurant were I took some pictures of the food we got using the flash and I uploaded them to facebook and what not.

by the time I got back to the hotel around 11pm The battery still had a fair amount of juice left in it.

I would consider rooting the phone.
The Rom will help with battery life. You can also get an Overclocking Mod for the phone and Underclock it if your just going to use it for texting and what not and you need the phone for a all day event.

This will also save your battery.
