How to clear history on the main google address bar

I want to clear all previous searches from the address bar on the main home screen. how do I do that. I cleared all history, cache, data forms, cookies in the brower, but the search list remains.

Off the main screen click on Settings, Click on Search from Settings page, then choose clear search shortcuts. That should do it.
