Moto Droid Google Nav w/o data?

is it possible to dl maps off Google from PC and then rely on the Droid's built in gps receiver to pinpoint your location? the data plan on verizon is too expensive.

Unless you're buying the Droid outright without a contract, you won't be able to use the Droid w/o a data plan. VZW requires use of a data plan for the duration of the contract.

I'm not aware of any apps that use "static" maps to overlay gps data

you can control if the device uses both cellular and GPS in the settings menu. If you it set for cell only and you have no cell service you cant navigate. If you have it with GPS enabled you can navigate with or without.

Google Navigator cannot store maps like a regular GPS.

+Advantage= you don't have to install new map upgrades ever
-Negative= you cannot use Navigator w/o cell service (rare on Verizon)
