Too Many Contacts!

So - when I got my new phone yesterday, I set it up with the Gmail account I've had for MANY years. As you probably know - anytime you hit reply, reply all or forward - ALL of those addresses are added to your "contacts". I never paid much attention to it until now, because NOW I have 955 contacts in my phone. OMG! I don't even know half of these people!

So - do you have any suggestions how I can get rid of my Gmail contacts? I am tempted to just delete them all and start from scratch. There doesn't seem to be an option to NOT sync the Gmail contacts.

Also - the Verizon guy was unable to transfer my REAL contacts (people I actually call and receive calls from) from my Blackberry Storm. Can anyone think of a clever way to move ONLY my BB contacts to the Eris?

Oh I had the same problem and the phone wouldn't stop telling me about it. So finally I went to my gmail contacts and deleted everyone I never speak to again and combined multiple entries. Upon re-syncing, Eris was finally happy.

It's a silly way to do it. Also gmail automatically puts people into your contacts that you message. There's no way to turn it off, so just remember to clean out your contacts every few months or so.

Since I had so many (955!) and had been collecting them for years, I just went ahead and deleted them all. Better to start from scratch, I think.

That "automatically adding" thing is a pain. It would be better if there was an option.

Now - I wonder how to get the Contacts form my Blackberry?
