Yes, the Eris is supposed to get an update to 2.0. HTC is working on getting the Sense UI converted over to the Android 2.0 software. I would love for the update to come out this year, but I would guess that it will probably be first quarter of 2010.
I do know that HTC and Verizon have two smaller updates coming out in December and January to fix some of the known issues. I do not believe either one of these updates will be 2.0.
