Call/Notification/Text Message Sounds

I can't find where to switch the ringer for incoming text messages. I've set a new tone for notifications, which just doesn't sound off at all, so that can't be the trick. Anyone know where to set this?

Click the messaging icon which was initially on the homepage. when inside the messaging application hit the menu key. click settings. scroll down to notification settings and then select sound. that will do it.

how do i put a custom txt tone on?

My problem was I was hitting menu from the single text message view, not the list messages view. Derrr.

Dunno about custom txt ringtones, maybe check out the sms alert app. It adds more options to your sms.
