I have been on the phone to Virgin Mobile for nearly an hour now regarding updating my 2.1.1 android to 2.2.
It's branded and contracted so I thought I'd give them a call to see when they would be releasing the update.
Not only can they not advise me of a date for the update, they actually don't seem to be aware that an update actually exists.
Here we go again... Virgin, absolutely hopeless.
Just thought I would share my despair and wondered if anyone else here has come up against this wall of silence with Virgin.

Normally get a response very quickly via email but still waiting for a reply asking the same question.
When will Virgin release 2.2?

Had an email reponse from Virgin last night... "Unfortunately we currently don't have plans to have Android 2.2, if we decide to upgrade to this, you will see this on our website"
Not the response I was hoping for!

Actually I gave up with Virgin and contacted HTC directly and they said the update will be in the next few weeks.
I did explain that my phone is Virgin branded but they insisted that the update will come OTA from HTC directly,so fingers crossed.
Actually now when I think back the previous update from 2.1 to 2.1-update1 came OTA from HTC.
This still doesn't change the fact that Virgin are still bloody annoying and totally lacking in any knowledge of their products.grr :-)

Got an email from virgin with a link to HTC support site!
So emailed them back asking them to call me if they don't understand my query.
As always with tech companies just get the best deal you can and sort your own problems out.
At least we can. Apple and Microsoft et al lock their customers out.
Horray for more open formats like Android and Linux!
Can anyone recommend a good How To link for flashing the Rom?

Virgin on the phone are useless, @virginmedia on Twitter said the information on the phone is wrong and that they are currently testing the android 2.2 update on htc desire's ensuring it works with there network correctly, and that they will release more information asap, and that they trying to get the update on their network as soon as poss! I also gave htc email and stated my htc desire handset was on virgin and enquired to why I haven't received the update yet, they said that my handset on virgin would receive the update very soon. Hopefully this resolves some peoples issues and questions, it has taken me a while to gather this information but now I'm just patiently waiting for virgin to release more information and to release the update

Hey All

I have just been having the same problem. I upgraded to a HTC Desire a week ago after the lady on the phone assured me that the upgrade would be coming (but seemed to not know about it so I did some searching and found this original post before any updates).

I then emailed support a few days later and got no response and after more searching today emailed them again. The bloomin support form does not work either, both times it gave me a different error so not confident that they are even getting my messages.

Found this thread again with the updates so have sent a message to @virginmedia on twitter so will see what that turns up and will update you here.

I am looking for an authoritative answer from virgin today else the phone gets returned, contract cancelled and ill go to o2.

On a side note, it's my first android phone after not wanting to sell my soul to apple and it is a damn fine piece of kit. :o)

Cheers
Marcus

Wow! I got a phone call from Virgin Mobile this morning to let me know that they plan to roll out the update OTA on the second or third week of September.
Happy Days

I have recently got a desire from virgin last month , and i was looking forward to the new features that 2.2 will bring mainly storing apps to SD and 720P video recording.
Well to my dismay today after receiveing a call from tech support at virgin telling me that virgin are NOT doing the 2.2 update for Desire ,this is because they have not and will not be getting it from HTC , well thats a p**s poor idea someone has had at Virgin so i for one have cancelled my contract and will also be looking at O2 for the new Desire HD instead but it just shows how poor Virgin are.
