No Cupcake Upgrade Fo Me?

Hey everybody.

I'm new to this forum, and I'm also new to the T-Mobile G1. In fact, I got it yesterday. And after browsing through the internet on stuff about Android, I stumbled upon this forum. I also stumbled upon the fact that there has been an Android update released known as "Cupcake." This update supposedly does things such as gives you a virtual keyboard, video recording, and orientation. However, I do not have that update, and do not know how to get it.

Any help would be appreciated.

if you bought your phone yesterday, expect to receive the update over the air in the next few days/week. The cupcake update is fairly new, and it's unlikely that stores have sold through all their pre-cupcake devices.

hello! im new to the g1 phone scene aswell!!

i have a g1 coming in the mail and i will be activating it and all that jazz. does the cupcake update only apply and work for UK customers or does it work for american aswell??

also, i will be activating a data plan long enough to register the phone and then shut the data plan off. (i dont need the data plan for another few months before i start my new job that requires it) but my question is, will the cupcake update download its self over the regular over the air signal/3g or do i require the data plan?

one more quick question, do i have to actively seek out the update or does it autmoatically do it?

the cupcake update is for pretty much every G1 created. If it doesn't come with it when you get it, if you have the data plan it'll update shortly thereafter. it'll download over 3G\EDGE data networks, but i don't believe you'll get it if you don't have a data plan. that's the only way you'd have access to the 3G\EDGE data networks, which is how you get all the good stuff for your phone ;-)

the update is automatic, but i believe you can make your phone look for the update as well.

My girl just bought her G1 yesterday and it's running a 1.1 version, mine is on the 1.5..

I went to system status and looked for updates, but it said it's currently up to date, which I know for a fact that it isn't...

So she'll only have to wait a few days? That's good, as she's still getting used to the touch screen.
