T-Mobile UK have confirmed that Android update 1.5 (Cupcake) has begun being sent out to G1 owners from today.

According a T-Mobile UK twitter post, the updates have begun but they have no idea of a timescale as to how long the rollout will take.

I have an unlocked G1 running on vodafone.

Any idea how I will get the update? Will I have to root the phone and download to manually install myself?

@Andor. You are completely wrong. in all aspects
1. Updates are pushed out from google not from t-mobile.
2. Over The Air (OTA) updated will also work in non t-mobile networks, such as Vodaphone, O2, etc. In all countrys where G1 is official available
3. You don't need root at all to manually update:
3a. If the update file is available, rename it to update.zip
3b. save update.zip to root of sd card
3c. turn off phone
3d. restart phone by pressing On/off button and home button until yellow triangle appears
3e.press ALT+S
3f. wait....
3g. ready

Thanks for clarifying this! I've removed my original post as you're right it does seem it was entirely inaccurate.

@unu$ual
You are also wrong in your point 2 when you say "where G1 is official available".
I'm in Luxembourg, where G1 is not officially available and I always received OTA updates, even when I was abroad. There is no border for G1... ;-)

The last update had a common European build, didn't it? Has anyone tried searching for the update .zip link for other countries? Just a thought...

Received update this morning. Haven't all of the features yet.

They have added a widget for calendar which is useful. I can uninstall the app i was previously using. The Virtual Keypad works well so far.

Can anyone send me a link/list of all the changes this update will bring. Good or Bad.

Cheers Guys!!

Hey, here's a list of all the features added!

Did you manage to find the update.zip file used, or the link to it? I'm searching everywhere for it so that others can manually update!
