Android 2.3 or 4???

I bought a tablet for my youngest daughter for Christmas and we've had nothing but bother with it. The supplier won't refund us but has offered us a better model for no extra.

He said it's available on Android 2.3 or Android 4, whichever I prefer.

I've absolutley no idea what this means or what the difference is. Can someone help?

She only wants it to play on games and apps that she downloads if that helps...

Android 2.3 is gingerbread and it was built to run on phones, not tablets

Android 4.0 is Ice Cream Sandwich and it was built to try and combine the phone and tablet version. (tablet version was 3.0).

For a tablet 4.0 is the better option, it i will perform faster, look better, and have a wider selection of apps to choice from.

I have bought galaxy note, im wondering if i can upgrade from 2.3.6 to 4.0? is it possible? Pls advice and what should i do in order to upgrade.
