T-Mobile UK are planning to reduce the cost of owning the G1 handset for the second time since it's release in October.

T-Mobile's first ever January sale will see the Android G1 reduced from £35 per month to just £31.50 with free handset.

Just last month T-Mobile announced they were knocking £10 off the monthly contract charge and bundling the G1 with a free 8GB SD card.

Other January T-Mobile reductions will include:
  • Samsung Omnia - Was £90, now FREE on Combi 30
  • Samsung U900 - Was £69.99, now FREE ON Combi 30
  • Sony Ericsson C902 - Was £107.65, now FREE ON Combi 20

[Thanks to the T-Mobile Uk tipster that sent this in!]

Yeah it is a weird price point. Been looking over the T-Mobile UK plans and they've changed up their text and minute allowances a lot too.

Compared to when i got mine at launch anyway.

They seem to be a bit all over the place with it. When i got mine, the £35 tariff (£140 worth of calls and text) had been reduced in a newspaper advert to £30, but on their site it was still £35. i called them and they seemed to be unaware of any of this so gave it me the £35 tariff for £30 a month. I wasn't lying, i had the newspaper (the Metro) in front of me and the webpage open whilst i was talking to them.

I think T Mobile are struggling to find a balance between getting as many people on board by not charging them £40 a month like O2 for the iPhone but also not letting it be too cheap as they realise the phone is really good (apart from the shoddy battery), and therefor keep changing their minds about tariffs etc. i personally dont think it will go below £30 a motnh for a decent amount of minutes and texts for the next 18 months but then new phones are coming out all the time and competition is hotting up. What they'll probably do is just drop the G1 when the next better model comes out so they can charge the same amounts or more.
