A handful of G1 users are reporting that their handsets have been updated today with a new update from T-Mobile.

The new update version, RC29 is believed to contain a number of bug fixes for the G1, but it is not yet known exactly what they are.

If you’ve received the new over-the-air RC29 update let us know your thoughts in the comments.

I'm wondering if this update changed the 3G and Signal icons to blue, cause that's how they are displayed on this G1 that's in the picture.

It'd be cool if it does.

I remember reading a few days ago about a possible security exploit with the Android browser.

Quote:
Charles A. Miller, notified Google of the flaw this week and said he was publicizing it now because he believed that cellphone users were not generally aware that increasingly sophisticated smartphones faced the same threats that plague Internet-connected personal computers. Mr. Miller, a former National Security Agency computer security specialist, said the flaw could be exploited by an attacker who might trick a G1 user into visiting a booby-trapped Web site.

I don't know how serious a threat that was, or whether a fix could have been written so quickly - but that could be a possible explanation for the latest update.

I believe it is.
RC28 was for some fixes, but then RC29 came out. So a lot of people figure it has something to do with the security.

So, how does one go about getting these over the air updates? I just got my phone a few days ago and it is still sitting at kla-user 1.0 TC4-RC19 109652...or do I just wait for them to come rolling out?

From what i've read around the internet, users are getting the 'over the air' updates at different times.

I dont think there is anyway to manually update/download the new updates.

OIC...thanks for the reply. I was just curious about it all but in no big hurry as my G1 has been operating beautifully since I got it.
