Are these the first spyshots of the upcoming HTC G2? The new G2 handset seems to almost perfectly match the codenamed HTC Sapphire 2.0 designs that were leaked earlier in the month.

As you can see from the photos this second generation Android phone by HTC is a purely touchscreen model with no physical keyboard.

Noticeably slimmer than the G1, the G2 also features a 3.2 mega-pixel camera.

According to the Gizmodo tipster the HTC G2 is scheduled for release in mid-May. Excited?

Looks pretty cool! The buttons, imo are a bit ugly, but otherwise not bad. Though the lack of a 3.5mm jack is disappointing.

From what i've seen so far i don't think its worthy of an upgrade from a G1, but it might just tempt Android phones who have held out on the G1.

Hopefully we'll find out a lot more about the G2 at some of next month's mobile industry events.

that s**t is fugly! the g1 looks much better than that! and no physical keyboard?! the whole purpose of the g1 was to show off not 1, not 2, but 3 ways of data input! is it just me or is that "chin" bigger and longer than the g1's? also the screen seems to be the same size, this is definately not a worthy upgrade!

Hopefully it will entice Android fans who decided to wait for a fully touchscreen handset.

But the general consensus amongst current G1 owners (comments on the blog post, twitter etc) is that the G2 wont be worth the upgrade.

Tbh I don't think it is a replacement for the G1, but more like a different class of model. For example you have the HTC touch. No keyboard etc, more for casual users, and the HTC tytan 2 which was more of a business phnone.
Neither was a replacement for the other, but just for a different audience. Like the G1 is for one type of audience (maybe the more business orientated) and the G2 for another type of audience (maybe the more casual user) if you get what I mean.

I imagine the replacement for the G1 will just an up-spec'ed version (i.e. better hardware but still with keyboard etc). While the replacement for the G2 would have better hardware, but no keyboard. TBH, I'm waiting for my ghey orange contract to finish so I can get an android phone. Not sure which to get, but I'll make that decision when it comes to the date.

Not too bad looking, but I dont think I would trade my keyboard for a touchscreen device, I'm happy with what I have. It looks like the ball in the new one may be able to light up like a sidekick or something, which makes me happy because I'm a nerd like that ha ha.
