HTC Desire won't vibrate for notifications

I'm having some trouble getting my HTC Desire to vibrate for notifications. The phone will vibrate fine for incoming calls, and it does the test vibrate if I set it to vibrate-mode, but it won't vibrate for any incoming notifications.

Notifications involved include incoming texts, incoming email, facebook updates and meebo messages.

I definitely have all of the above apps set to vibrate for notifications.

The vibrating worked fine a few days ago, but seems to have failed after the battery level dropped to nearly empty. Is there a global setting that disables vibration for apps? I've searched but can't find it.

Failing that, would a factory reset have any chance of fixing this? I'd rather not have to do that, but if I do is there an easy way to save and then reload settings such as home page setup? I'm aware that there's an app for backing up installed apps.

I have had the desire for 2 days now, i also have the phone set to vibrate for txt etc.. the phone when in standby mode doesnt vibrate, i would like it to vibrate as a way of me knowing i have a message but just not make a sound, is this the same issue you are having?

also one other issue im having which i cant solve, i have the phone keyboard set to the old style keyboard not qwerty, as i am finding this easier to type on, my txts seem to be all over the place when i use qwerty, but everytime i go to send a txt it reverts to predictive txt and i have to keep changing it to 'not predictive' does anyone know how i get this to stay as not predictive?

if you definitely have the applications set to vibrate them it does sound like the same issue. I managed to fix mine by resetting to factory settings. if it prompts you to restore backed up settings from the sd card then say no, otherwise the setting that is disabling the vibrate will get set again.

Did the vibrating ever work? On mine it did originally but it stopped working. I think it had something to do with an application I installed called Sweet Dreams, which turned things off at night in a sleep mode. I think when I un-installed it the vibrate setting got set to permanently off, and I couldn't find how to change that.

As for your inability to change the keyboard mode, I've noticed similar issues with other settings. When I sweet the people app to show facebook contacts add well add phone contacts it resets when I reboot the phone. not sure how to overcome that.

my issue regarding vibrating seems to have cleared up now, i havnt a clue how i done it, i didnt reset the settings.

im having this exact same problem and i really dont want to do a hard reset. Do you know of anything at all which you changed on your phone before it started working again?

For me the following worked after days of searching forums:

- Download "Sound Manager" from the market.
- Open
- Menu --> vibrate settings --> vibrate whenever possible

I also had that problem, but after Some research i found this smart little program called "smart vibrator" this program gives you a chance of making your own vibration-signal! Pretty awesome i think try it out
