I love my G1 seperate qwerty keyboard and have 6 months to go before end of contract with T-Mobile. Why have google abandoned a seperate keyboard for Nexus? Will there be a Nexus with a split keyboard. The onscreen does not cut it ... Examples
Does not work with a stylus? Why?
Cannot text as fast as I can with my G1?
Wifelet has got long nails - very hard to text on a onscreen keyboard? Why?
Temperature sensitive - when my fingers are cold, damp dry the onscreen keyboard is not as sensitive - more false positives? Why?
Have tried the Iphone and others but seperate keyboard beats it hands down...

So why abandon the sep keyboard concept. I cannot see the logic.. Seperate keyboards are more reliable, faster to type and generally are easier to hold and use.
Will there be a option? Do designers actually use there designs or is it simply down to weight, size and slimness...??

I'm the same. I really want a regular clam-shell phone with a keyboard!!

It's a capacitative touch screen. Advantage: accurate, never needs calibration. Disadvantage: requires a conductor to work, so doesn't work with an ordinary stylus.

No, touchscreen keyboards suck.

Her nails are not conductive. Tell her to put some metallic paint, or even a tiny metal flake, on the tip of her nails.

Again, the screen works on your finger being a conductor. If your finger is too dry, it doesn't conduct. If it's too damp, it will leave conductive moisture on the screen and give false positives.

I agree 100%.

Keyboards look uncool and old-fashioned. I don't care; they WORK.

Wow, MobileDevDude is completely on the money. I totally agree that typing on a physical keyboard is much more efficient than on a virtual on-screen keyboard but the fact of the matter is that people don't want efficiency as much as they want sexiness and aesthetic value. I have the Nexus One and I love the on-screen keyboard but if it comes to the point that I don't wanna use it I can just use the speech to text feature.
