I know there's a handful of companies looking to launch some Android powered phones this year and into 2009, but have they released any technical info on the hardware specs they're going to be using?

I don't believe so, no. Any solid info on the Android devices currently in production are pretty non-existant at this moment in time. That should change however over the coming months!

I'm pretty sure HTC play to launch one by Summer, with a few other manufacturers planning to launch by the end of the year.

I don't expect first Android phone sooner then first quarter of 2009. HTC bets on Diamond, and probably they have started work on Android powered device just few month ago.

HTC Dream will be the first Android-powered phone. It will be 3" X 5", with a large capacitative touchscreen, 528 Qualcomm processor, HSDPA (3.6Mbps), 3G/WiFi. Memory: 128MB RAM, 256MB ROM. It will also have aGPS, and a compass for Street view.

According to HTC's CEO, in an interview with Engadget, he says they've been toying with Android for over 2 years, and this is their best design for the 1st Android device. This info is actually really old I'm surprised no-one here on talkandroid forums knows about it.

The phone is planned for a Q3 2008 release (confirmed by Google). Expect some leakage and a possible announcement before July 11th.

The phone is rumored to have a swivel/slideout qwerty keypad behind the large touchscreen.

It's gonna be great I'm anxiously waiting for it.

However, Motorola's Android phone is planned for Q1 2009, and it will feature TAT's Cascades UI which is pretty good, but pales in comparison to the UI Google demoed in the I/O.

So Q3 2008 for HTC Dream running Android.
And Q1 2009 for Motorola's Android phone.

These are the two Android phones confirmed so far.

NB - There's a rumor the HTC Dream will be released by T-Mobile in July. However, the only official release date for the HTC Dream is Q3 2008.
NB - Rumor partially debunked. Now they're saying in October, expect the first Android phone.

This device is a prototype from 8 months ago. It's purpose was the Android could also work with qwerty non-touchscreen devices. Both the hardware and software have immensely changed since then.
