HI, I'm considering the MyTouch or G1 and have some questions for those of you that have the phones, questions that the salesman at T-mobile aren't able to answer.

General

I have held onto my Treo 650 for as long as I can, and have avoided Windows mobile for this long, hopefully to be rescued from it by Android.

Are you able to "sync" or backup contacts, notes, to do lists, etc to your PC? Is there anything other than Outlook to sync contacts to? One thing I like about the old Palm OS is the desktop software allows you to totally bypass Outlook if you choose to.

Music
Can I consider this an iPod replacement? By that I mean am I going to be able to tell the mediaplayer on this thing which mp3s' are audiobooks and podcasts, so that it remembers my position? I am aware of files types and compatibility so no need to go into those issues.

How easy is it to make playlists? Can I make them on the PC and sync them over? What about updating podcasts, is it a pain (manually copying the files to the destination) or simple like iTunes?

How annoying is the 3.5mm adapter?

I have searched through the apps and looks like some interesting ones, Android might be nice for those of us addicted to the old Palm OS.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

The MyTouch 3G (the latest Android phone from T-Mobile) uses a GMail account (one that is provided during setup at any T-Mobile store) and backups/syncing can happen through gMail accounts. There are apps available for most email clients, although I have not located one for MS Outlook except for most features of an exchange server. As far as music goes, I have gotten rid of my iPod and just use my phone now. There is a mini-SD card (the phone comes with 4GB and will accept up to 32GB, to the best of my knowledge) and there are of course numerous music apps available which have all the same features as iTunes and more. I am glad I have an android phone, and waffled between that and an iPhone for a long time, but here ATT Wireless is a horrible provider, and I'm happy that I didn't have to change from TMobile.
