I was wondering if the built in GPS of phones like the G1, Magic or Hero (or the iPhone) are good enough for use with in car navigation applications like CoPilot, also while driving in cities.
Apparently TomTom doesn't think so and is coming out with the iPhone holder with extra internal GPS.
I really prefer a HTC Hero but my new phone will need to double as a fully functional in car nav device

Should be, I have been using GPS in my Nokias for a few years now.

Copilot have live 7 going cheap for Android, give it a go.

The Hero Gps is very poor I would get a real gps device. Its just a gimmick at the moment.

Unless the Hero's GPS is less sensitive than the magic's, it's NOT a gimmick.

Assuming it's not worse than Nokias (from what I have seen of the magic, it's the same as my 5800), then it's perfectly usable. Both on foot and car navigation.

I have travelled many miles using turn by turn navigation via Garmin XT, Navmii, Copilot 7, and various others on mobiles.
