OK, I just updated to Cupcake and thought "Hey, what better way to keep my family in the loop of what I do then to occasionally upload pictures onto Picasa now that I can!?" So I got the camera app out, and there's a...spot. A dark spot. You can still see stuff through it, but it drives me nuts, and it would be a distraction if I were to take a picture with sky in it. It shows up in the pictures I have taken, and live in the view. I hate this spot, so it and I are going to do war.

First, I search as many forums as I can about it. nothing. But! I do see that people are having problems with their SD cards. Took out my SD card...no go. I took the back cover off and used the camera app...spot is still there. I used a Q-Tip to clean off the camera lens (with the cover off, dry q-tip)...no good. As I was feeling around there I noticed with my finger nail that the dark piece of plastic or so thats immediately over the camera aperture is slightly springy...that is to say that if you push in any direction (other than towards the aperture) it will spring back into place. I decided to put the battery in and push that around a tad while using the camera to see if the spot moved. If it moved then It must be a scratch.

Lo and behold, it didn't move. This tells me it's possibly software, as there are no scratches on the lens, none on the clear cover that's on the battery cover, nothing.

I am at my wits end. Let me answer a question here: yes, I did accidently drop it a few days ago. The camera seemed fine as of yesterday. I'm not saying that this is at all due to Cupcake, it's just the only change that has taken place between good pictures and dark spot pictures.

I'm attaching a few so that you can see what's going on. I am hoping that someone can help me!

EDIT: I tried a factory reset to solve this. Nothing. I'm pretty sure I'm SOL.

I just realized I have a bunch of dust on my camera too. It was clean on 5/16, dirty after 5/28. It's not in the software, since several pictures were fine even after the upgrade to Cupcake (before Cupcake, the filenames were the UNIX timestamp in ms; after Cupcake, the filenames are local date+time). Seems to have been a one-time infusion; the dust spots are all exactly the same as a month ago. I don't know how it happened, or how to remove it.

This shot was taken with the back cover removed.

Have you heard anything else to try. I have the same problem with a dark spot on my camera and it probably started around the same time. Just wondering. Thanks.
