With the HTC Magic set for release this week, and the recently announced Samsung I7500 planned for June, it seems that fully touchscreen handsets are the future for Android phones.

Problem is, i can't say im too bothered for them...

From what i've seen so far from the Samsung I7500 (video/pics), it looks to be a very promising handset, and will no doubt be a great cheerleader for the Android platform.

I love the physical keyboard on the G1 (back-lit buttons aside), and even when the Cupcake update rolls out providing onscreen keyboard functionality, i doubt i will use it often.

Anyone else not willing to give up their physical keyboard just yet?

Personally...I'd rather have a physical keyboard over a virtual one any day....

So full-touchscreen phones are not what I'll be looking...

Although the new phones that are on the way do look great....the simple fact I would have to rely on a virtual keyboard is keeping me from buying one...

Knowing that the G1's will be able to have both physical and virtual keyboards...I don't see any reason for me to swap my G1 for any of the newer phones.....apart from better specifications...which isn't all that big a deal because I make do with whatever I have...

So no....the full touchscreen phones don't bother me all that much...

I am looking forward to having the best of both worlds - virtual keyboard for small messages and typing into search, the physical keyboard for longer messages and for days when I can't virtual type

the issue for me with virtual keyboards are the the keys are way, way, way too small. I don't have large hands, by any means. Glove shopping is hard for me simply because they don't seem to make men's gloves smaller than a "Medium". So it's not like I have giant hands and fingers. Just using chomp sms, I have to retype things again and again because I get a "W" when I want an "E" and vice versa.

Plus, until they get multitouch, and larger screens(to accomodate a comfortable keyboard), I don't see myself going for a virtual keyboard, it's just too problematic. One idea I've had is to go similar to the Nintendo DS and have two touchscreens, Replace the physical keyboard with a second touchscreen that is a virtual keyboard. This would be great for folks who want to type in another language -- they'd just need an app that's a different keyboard.
This would help with gaming as you could remap the keyboard-touchscreen to make a game pad out of it. No more trying to figure out which keys are forward, back, left right, you'd simply map those out on the second keyboard-touchscreen.

Ideally I'd like to see an Android slider phone similar to a Palm Pre form factor with a qwerty keyboard... whilst wishing can I also have a it with an OLED screen, rubberised back, 5 meg camera, 32 meg onboard memory and a big battery.....
