So I wanted to try out app development, but hate the iOS development model. So, I've decided to replace my iPod touch but couldn't find many android alternatives. An android phone would be nice, of course, but they seem to be about 4x as expensive just for the phone part.

So I'm looking for an android "device" that can match the ipods quality/features (high quality and resolution screen, multitouch, wifi, music etc.) and price (<200 pounds, ~$300).

I don't care about cameras or 3g, although, actually, a GPS feature would be great. But it's not essential - I doubt if any models have it anyway. Any recommendations?
