Hi,
I recently got a Samsung Galaxy Y with a contract...I had no intention of getting a new phone, so I chose the crappiest one.
However, anything's better than an HTC Hero, I thought. In most respects, the Galaxy Y is equal or better to the Hero - but its internet performance seems a lot worse (which is basically the entire point of a smart phone...a smart phone that can't conveniently use the internet is basically crap to me).
Network Latency for the Samsung Galaxy Y varies considerably (between atrocious and intolerable).
I'm testing with Fing - pinging google.co.uk:
SGY: 130-1000, average 500ms
HTCH: 70-80ms.
While the bandwidth is presumably the same (governed largely by the service provider, I assume), the latency is making everything ridiculously slow.
Does anyone have any tips to decrease the SGY's latency, or is the hardware just of a lower quality?
Could stock apps be constantly using data? I've killed as many as I could before testing.
The SIM card used while testing was the same, and the phones were put in the same location.
The SGY also seems to switch between H and <n>G for various values of n, constantly, which probably isn't helping.
Anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks
I haven't tried using WiFi, because I don't have a reliable WiFi service at home (it varies from minute to minute too much to test lol).
