I have a feeling someone at T-Mobile is reading the forums online and repeating what they read here(and other places) assuming we know more than they do: thus an echo chamber is created without anyone really knowing.

I guess what I find hard to understand is that people are mad that a "newer" product is coming out. Look, every year you have a new line of cars, in those, most auto dealers "revamp' the design every 5, lets face it, you cant keep up. What matter is, are you happy with what you have? Its not anyones fault but your own, if you feel you HAD to get the G1 and the G2 is coming out and you wanted that instead.... guess what - G3 someday will be coming. Myself, I love the G1, I plan on getting my girlfriend one, (if the G2 is out before then, well); she will have to decide, but one thing I know for sure, the Blackberry I got her, flat out sucks. If you know someone who has one, and compare it to your G1, maybe you would stop complaining.

I know it can be annoying when newer models are released, probably more so G1.
But the more Android powered handsets that get out there this year the better IMO for the platform.
I want to spoilt for choice when my time to upgrade comes

Don't hold your breath on stock-multitouch, apple just won the trademark on it for mobile devices.
But you could always spend 8 minutes and root your G1, flash JFv1.41 and get your precious multitouch now. (well, in the browser.)
Plus, I hate virtual keyboards.. I don't understand why everyone creams over them. Give me a big honkin' real keyboard any day.

i think if google releases a g2 then you'd be able to use the same os on the other phone so it wont be that big of a deal. There not going to release a phone thats too drastically different.

I agree with jermaine above me, it'll be the same Android OS on a new design, nothing that great. As DarkCloud and landotheripper have said, I'm perfectly happy with G1, I love the keyboard the most! Not a fan of the virtual stuff.
Maybe it'll be called a G1, with just a new design name? Or something...

I've been looking at getting a smartphone- G1/G2 vs. iPhone 3G/next gen iPhone and I'm waiting right now to see what will come out. I don't think a G2 is unfair for the following reasons:
1) The HTC Magic (G2) more or less has the same guts as the G1. Same processor, same camera, etc. It's basically a reskin of the G1.
2) G1 owners seem to prefer a keyboard, so a G2 would not cause too much gadget envy.
I see the G1 and G2 as providing more options for consumers if they are sold side-by-side. If you want a keyboard you're not going to get a G2 or any other phone with only a touchscreen keyboard.
Now if the G2 had a improved processor, a 16GB hard drive, then I can understand people being upset.

I completely agree roidrage. I also noticed they were basically the same guts, I'm won't be envious at all.

So, time to revive this argument. I've been contacting my faithful (6 years) network ( tmobile) for 5 months. While euro's walk around with the G2 (g3), whatever you guys call it, I'm foced into trolling the airwaves for updates an on almost daily basis. Consistently they tell me to call back in a month. As recently, outcourced and March 10th,2010 I believe. After speaking with a sup, iwas given several reasons. In the end, the sup tried to tell it was cause they were still dealing with traffic from the clique. I think its all the new customer care reps not handling calls properly.
So many questions my friends. With Philly and parts of Delaware(fact?) Currently testing the. 3Gplus network for tmobile, will the new g2 be 4g capable. I'm modestly assuming a comprable processor to the iphone 3gs if not the pending 4g.
Statements:
In the U.S., Verizon users are walking around with new 2.0 (or better) android os while original (other than iPhone) android users walk around with 1.6? Now that is applicable to this forum thread title.
In the end, I'm fortunate enough to work 'near' the alca-tel buildings in d/fw. They were just publicly named the spearheaders of atnt's 4g network. A random traveller I speak all but confirmed some these above mentioned rumors. All in all, I won't lie, I love my g1, this thing is a friggin beast. Drop it once a week atleast...its the new swatch. But! I'd be lying if I didn't admit an eny to iPhone users for their 3gs processors.
