is there already an app available that will turn your screen to widescreen when the g1 is turned? similar to the iphone? without opening the slide window?

I highly doubt they have, as they weren't the first ones to think of such a program. There have been variations on that theme floating around the symbian world for quite awhile before the iphone was launched

Well there is a AUTO Rotation App available in the android market. The app is STEEL and it is another browser for the G1. The STEEL App Browser for the G1 is a auto-rotation/accelerometer app. It is the same as the iphone (screen shifts when held sideways) and you do not have to engage the keyboard. I know there are a bunch of Dev Teams working on this to bring it to life on all the apps and things on the G1
