Wayne,
go to http://www.nitrodesk.com to get a free 5 day trial.

Note that while it currently works only for Exchange server 2007 SP1 (your wb access login screen will normally tell you which version you have),
if you are on exchange 2003, please email us at the support alias. We should be rolling out some trials this week.

regards
-Nitro.

For those of you who were disappointed that we did not have exchange 2003 support last week :
Please note that Exchange 2003 support is available in a preview mode (some limitations remain)
The only difference or limitations are that you cannot Add/Edit/Delete your contacts (you can download them, but performing add/edit/delete will have no effect (as of now)).

here are brief instructions (We have found different settings working for different people)

Here are some typical settings for Exchange 2003
User ID :
if you login to owa as mydomain\jsmith, enter jsmith here
If you login to owa as jsmith@mycompany.com, enter jsmith@mycompany.com

Domain:
if you login to owa as mydomain\jsmith, enter mydomain here
otherwise, leave this blank

Exchange 2003 compatibility : Check this ON
Full email address:
Please look at the from address on an email you send yourself. You will find your proper email address. if you login as jsmith, your email address might still be john.smith@yourcompany.com. This is the address you should enter here.

Server Name:
If the link to your OWA page is https://mail.mycompany.com/exchange, or some such, you need to enter just mail.mycompany.com, and not the entire thing.

Once you have set these, press Save
Go to the last tab in settings, scroll to the very bottom and press Refresh Folders. Give it at least a minute for the folders to be refreshed. If these dont get refreshed, you may be running an incompatible version or have wrong settings. Note that there is no activity feedback for this.. the folder list would simply be updated when the operation is over.

Running TouchDown
Once the folder list is up to date, from the home page, click Menu/Refresh to initialize the system. This can take a long time. For some people this has been known to crash.
Send yourself a test email and verify it appears in outlook. then press Menu/Refresh again.

TO get your initial contacts list, go to contacts, press Menu/Refresh All.
To get your calendar for the day, go to Calendars, press Menu/Refresh.

my compnay does not allow POP or IMAP. I tried exchnageit app and that did not work 'cause it stated I need to add WedDAV. I have no idea what thi sis nor do I want to get it

So, that being said. which is the BEST app to use?

As one other post mentioned, I want to be able to get my Outlook emails and be notified when they arrive, just as I do now with Gmail and Yahoo - although Yahoo is a bit fuzzy at times and does always connect. Gmail ont he other is prestine. Given that it is a Google app phone this would make sense (duh!)

If your company doesn't support Exchange Webmail then your option today is limited to a mail forwarding program like MailShadow from Cemaphore. I tried this for a while before moving to TouchDown and didn't care for it but if you have a box available that can be left on all the time as a forwarding utility, then it's a solution.

Your best bet would be to get the webmail solution working and using TD.

@slider9499,
we should however warn that TouchDown requires WebDAV to be enabled as well (for 2003). Usually this is the case for most installations. If you are not sure, best way to check would be to try installing and configuring it to see if it works (takes 10 minutes at most if all goes well). If you have trouble, you can always email us at support.

Will any of these 3rd party appz sync with the G1 without going through Gmail? My work has a secure server that can't be posted on another server for security reasons and the only sync I am able to do is directly to the unit via USB. Any help would be appreciated.

@mikee2888,
TouchDown does not go through gmail. it directly connects to your exchange server (assuming its not behind a VPN or something) and gets the information direct to your phone.

Well, not for me. I have been an Exchange user for a couple of years using Windows Mobile and recently using iPhone. Their implementation is way better , besides the fact that the contacts, emails and calendar are merged in the phone ones, instead of using a disparate database.

I could only see one email, no folders, no contacts, or calendar events.

Exchange is a MUST for me and so far G1 is lacking this big time.

I like the phone very much, and would love native support like Windows Mobile, iphone, and blackberries.
