Google Talk Disconnecting Frequently

Hi all,

I'm new to the forums, and to Android, but I've already come across an issue that I hope has some sort of fix. I have Verizon 3G service, and when I have Google Talk running on my Droid, I see it constantly connecting/disconnecting. I can only imagine how annoying that is to my friends who have me on their contact list... is there some way to correct this and still be able to use Google Talk on my phone? That's really the only IM client I use, and don't think I should have to keep finding other mediums to switch to in order to keep up a conversation.
