I know that the G1 will dial a 7 when a p is in a phone number, so that we can dial "1 800 pick ups" for instance, but this is annoying when we are trying to dial a number with an extension, such as "1 800 555 1212p123" to have the phone wait for an answer and then dial the extension. Grrr. How do we work around this? is there any way to diable that "feature"? any help appreciated. thanks. robots rock.

I tried the ,, (comma twice), and it seems to work. The second , makes the pause longer and it looks like the problem is with # sign, not with the ,.
If anybody finds anything else about this, please post it.

Did you ever get this sorted out? I have a new HTC Magic on the Rogers network and I can't insert pauses or waits, using 'p's or 'w's or commas. I really need these!

If you have had the cupcake update from Google/T-Mobile, then you can go into your contacts, select whichever contact you want to add a pause to, Edit your contact, and when you are on the number that you want to add a pause to, select the [*#(] button on the bottom left corner, if youhave the virtual keyboard, then select "Pause" in the center button.

I'm having same problem. When my contact list was imported to Hero, the pauses were there, but were not long enough.
I tried to add more (original pauses show as a "p" but added commas show as ","). But now when I dial, the number shows no pauses on screen and the Sprint network gives recording that "the number or code you entered is not valid." And while all this is going on, and I have ended the call, you hear the phone continuing to dial the numbers after the pauses.
I even went as far as to type the number sequence using "pppp" (for a long pause) in a text document, then pasted into number field on contact list. This shows as a "p" when in edit mode, but displays as a "," when not. When I go to dial, it shows no spaces, "p" or "," when dialing, and I'm greeted once again with the Sprint recording.
Frustrating.

I miss my "w's" as well and they are necessary as the # pause does not always work. Just thinking if the extension number could be input as a separate number under the contact and dialed when asked for. I'll have to try it.
