Does anyone know if there is/will be a music player that has .flac file support? I really am surprised to find that the built in player does not have it considering how popular it is...

I'm sure they'll be some 3rd party players coming out soon.
I've tried contacting the Flac community to see if we can expect support in a later android update. But i agree .flac support should really be built-in to the platform.

Flac support would be an overkill for andriod currently. G1 music playback is not really steller. My suspicion is, flac would not be noticeably better than 128K MP3 on G3, plus storage is premium on G1 even with 8GB card.

Ok, I will not try to flame, but that is really a dumb statement. Even my regular friends (not audio geeks like me) can tell the difference between un lossy compressed music (like .flac) vs a 128k mp3.
And with a 16GB card, you can store about 3200 minutes of CD quality music, or about 800 4 minute songs, or about 36 90 minute concerts. That's plenty. I keep my music database on a 2TB SAN and rotate inand out music.
There is no excuse not to have flac support.

agreed
it would be nice if someone who has done most of the leg work on flac players that run on other distros could support a move to Android, but if not someone is going to have to start with lidflac and work upwards

I need to be able to play FLAC, APE, WV and ISO on my Android device (which I don't have yet).

It's not a matter of audio quality; it's a matter of convenience. I'd prefer to have my entire music library in a single lossless format so that I can use it in a variety of ways. If my G1 supported FLAC, I could have my entire library available to it without having to maintain a second copy in another format.
A single format to rule them all, and all that.

*BUMP* Flac support is definitely needed. I'm sick of converting all my FLACS to mp3.

Hi,
I just bought a Samsung Galaxy to replace my phone and my ipod (rockbox rules, but Android on a customizable touchscreen phone will be better). Besides, I would then have only one device, and it will spare me from having to buy a third one : gps device.
Anyway, just to say that, considering that I've got several flac files in my library, and that I don't want to convert them to mp3 everytime I want to listen to them on my phone, I'm going to code a flac player, if there isn't one yet.
