The way I got the browser to pull up the desktop version of websites instead of the mobile version via the default Android browser was by using the following steps:
1. In the browser's URL bar, type: about:config and then hit GO. You will notice no visible change, but you now have access to the more advanced configuration options for the browser.
2. Press MENU, go into the browser's settings and under the Debug heading, be sure that "Normal rendering" is checked.
3. At the very bottom of the Debug options, click "UAString" and select "Desktop".
4. Reload the page.
You should now hopefully be able to see sites as they appear on a desktop computer. I hope this helps!
NOTE: If you clear out the browser's data from the Manage Applications menu under Android's main settings page that you access by using the MENU button on the home screen, you will have to repeat these steps to be able to see sites rendered as they are on desktops again.
