Google map scale

I have a T-mobile G1 and am very pleased with it. It is possible zoom in and out in Google maps but there is no way of knowing what scale the map is depicting.

Is there any way to display a scale on Google maps in the same way that Google maps on my PC displays a scale in the bottom left corner.

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Here's what you do, get a ruler then..... Ha just kidding, unfortunately no its not a feature yet. perhaps in the coming update when Google releases there maps navigator app.
