I live in South Africa.

If I click 'find me' in the Android Maps application, it shows me pretty much in the middle of nowhere with only the major roads shown on the map.

If I copy and paste my current location into regular Google Maps, it shows my current street and all the surrounding streets, i.e. it goes into a lot more detail.

Am I missing something here? For now the app is pretty useless for me because it can't do directions beyond highway to highway.

To clarify, on Android Maps I only see yellow and orange roads, whereas on regular Google Maps I can see white roads and coloured terrain. Hope that makes sense.

I have the same problem ,I think the issue here is that the maps are not updated with all details.
I know it's working good in the US but anywhere else google have alot of work.

do you have GPS on? It's going to be inaccurate unless you use GPS and are outside. If you can't see the sky, the satellites are going to have trouble seeing you. If you're still having this problem, exchange the phone, it's probably a faulty model.

Hi PunkZanyJ, thanks for the reply. The GPS works fine, if I click 'find me' it shows my location, but the map is very incomplete. It looks complete, but it only shows the major high ways around me, and not the streets in my neighbourhood (or wherever I am actually). If I copy and paste the GPS coordinates in to the web based version of Google Maps, it shows the same location with all the missing streets and terrains now on the map, in great detail. My problem is all this extra detail (streets and not just the high ways) is missing in the Android version, which makes navigation impossible.
