Android Development Where to Start?

From what i've seen and read about Android i'd really like to get invlved writing applications and software for the platform, but where do i begin?

Does anyone have any tips? What programming languages do i need to know?

After doing some searching i found this book, http://www.manning.com/ableson/ but i think it's gonna be a bit too advanced.
