I am trying to setup my pc to start learning some things about android. I started with the hello android tutorial and I cannot get it to run. I do everything as the instructions says but when I get to running it I get the emulator and all it says is ANDROID_ with a blinking underscore.

Am I missing something here?

Did you wait a few minutes? It always takes some time for the emulator to start up, especially for the first time.

Yeah, I've waited a good 5-8 minutes since everywhere it says that it does take a while, I am using eclipse and followed the steps exactly like the getting started guide, I've tried a couple of the sample programs too and none will run.

When I do close the emulator, it says emulator.exe has stopped working and gives me the option to close as if it has stopped responding.

Also, If I double click emulator.exe nothing at all happens.

This is on vista 64 bit. It does not seem like a common problem since I have been searching like crazy and cannot find a solution.

I don't know what I can say because I am not developer. If You really want developing for Android OS put in yours PC Windows XP. I think it will be work.

Yeah, I've been thinking about going back to xp, the thing is it wont use all of my 4 gigs of ram.

I'm a software developer, just graduated and am working for IT for a big company and just need something to do on my free time. Maybe ill wait a little bit.

Am developing under Windows Vista 64 bit, and having no problems. The only thing I would point out is that I am using the 32 bit version of Eclipse and the JDK since I'm not sure the target environment is 64 bit friendly.

And yes, the first time I had to wait a few minutes for everything to come up. Depends on where you put the emulator, how fast your HD is, etc.

I got a pretty good system and like I said I waited like 20 minutes.

I will try from scratch.

I'd the same problem, but it was actually my antivirus (kespersky) who made "emulator.exe" untrusted. I've changed the setting of anti virus and it works now.
