How Can I Tell if I Have Root Access?

And if I do not, how do I gain access? There is an app called advanced task manager for G1, which will be spectacular for viewing and killing annoying processes that continue to run in the background, continuously accessing 3G/EDGE networks, and drain battery even more quickly, but in order to use the app, I will need root access. Please Help!

ok i discovered how to gain the root access, just wondering if there was anything i could check to see if my phone is already accessible b4 i begin the process?

There is not an app to enable "Root Access" on your G1. You have to use an exploit to gain root access and the app(Task Manager for example) can then USE the root access to terminate background task and in the end save you battery power and memory for running apps.

I suggest you google JesusFreke's RC33 firmware with Root Access which is what I am running...

Another test to see if you have root access is to download "Terminal Emulator" from the Android Market and run it...

Once inside the Terminal type su

if the terminal then jumps down a line and displays a # you have root...

Penwork, also I would suggest reading and doing some research on "rooting" your phone, as if you do it incorrectly your phone will brick and warranty will void..U tube has a step by step instructional video's as well which seems to be very helpful...

What did you handle, how did you root for G1. I have not succeeded. I would like my G1 root but I do not know what I can do. Can anyone help me??
