For all you Debian fans here's an installer and bootloader to get Debian running on your HTC G1.

The installation as a whole will take around 10 minutes to complete and will give you access to the whole host of apps available in Debian.

Best of all you can still continue to use your Android phone as intended.

This isn't just a port - Debian already supports ARM EABI, which is the underlying architecture of Android.

Howto install Debian on the HTC G1

1). Download the installer package here:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IG255UUO

2. Unzip the Installer Package on your computer.

3. Copy the 'debian' folder to the root of your SDCARD.

4. Use Terminal (you can download it from Android market direct from your device) to go to the newly formed /sdcard/debian folder.

cd /sdcard/debian

5. As root make the files executable by typing:

chmod 4755 *

6.as root (or su) run the installer like this:

su ./installer.sh

DONE!

From terminal just type 'bootdeb' to mount and boot your Debian system.

When you want to exit back out just type 'exit'

In order to use/install Debian you must have a rooted G1 or a G1 Dev Phone. Search the forums for JesusFreke's RC33 custom firmware with root...

I have everything ready, but I'm getting a few unmount errors that are causing a kernel panic and then a shutdown of debian..

I'm sorta a newb when it comes to linux, but know alot about it and all the commands...

This is what I'm seeing:

Code:
mount: mounting /dev/block/loop2 on /data/local/mnt failed: Invalid argument
mount: mounting devpts on /data/local/mnt/dev/pts failed: No such file or dir
mount: mounting proc on /data/local/mnt/proc failed: No such file or dir
mount: mounting sysfs on /data/local/mnt/sys failed: No such file or dir

Starting init process
INIT: Debian booting.....
Running Linux Kernel
net.ipv4.ip_foward = 1
AutoMounter started
Type EXIT to end session
Make sure you do a proper EXIT for a clean kill of Debian!

chroot: cannot execute /bin/bash: No such file or directory

Then it tries to unmount the above mounts with errors...

Filesystems have unmounted
losetup: /dev/block/loop2: No such device or address
Loopback device shutdown - success
Debian down
Coded by Mark Walker
Reverted back to Android console
I think my problem is that I'm not connected to net access at the moment due to T-mo screwing up my plan again..

Let me know what ya'll think my prob is..

I'm using JF's RC33 by the way...

Well, took some screenshots to show you the problems I am having..

Bootdeb is not working for some reason..

I have all the files on my sdcard and in /data/local/bin(as installer.sh puts them there)

Resized my debian.img to 3.5GB on my *nix box...

And just a random screenshot showing dxTop and some widgets..

Sorry, I forgot to tell ya a week ago when I got it running.

It was not a problem of me being root or not..

Found in a google search that bc of some issue in JF 1.42+ you have to type the below code before being able to " bootdeb"....

Code:
modprobe ext2
