I have been in contact with adam fisk wich is the co founder of limewire
And also the founder of little shoot. I talked to him about android and
told him that a file sharing program for android would be a great success. He sounded very excited about the idea. I am not a developer so I wanted some input about this. Is this possable is their proper api for this. Little shoot is a browser based p2p but you do have to download a plugin. Would this work for android? He is a very nice guy and I have his personal Email. Also is their any developers that would be intrested in working on this ?
Sorry if I sound stupid I know nothing about developing. Thanx guys ......Josh

The problem with LimeWire is that it is a Java Based Application. I currently do not do any Android development and would like to know if the G1 is Java Capable...

Traditional Java (SE) apps won't compile for Android because of the completely different GUI model (Activities, Intents etc).

Compiled Java apps won't run because Android uses the Dalvik VM, not the Java VM.

You could, depending on which parts of the JavaSE tree used, port it to Android, but you'd have to redo the GUI.

Hi, I also had the chance to meet Adam Fisk in New York when he unveiled Little Shoot. I'm the lead dev. of FrostWire for Android (FrostWire is a fork project of LimeWire).

We already have created an Android version of FrostWire (from scratch with a new p2p protocol that takes into consideration the limitations on battery consumption, mobility and connectivity)

The App works over Wi-Fi since we don't want anybody to get their Wireless plan canceled, also because 3G is too slow and unreliable for real p2p (we'll probably enable a 4G upgrade once enough 4G phones are out there in 2011)

The App allows you to share files either locally on the local Wi-Fi router, or over the Internet if your Wi-Fi router allows you to connect to the internet and forward ports using UPnP.

You can basically:
- Browse your files (it's a very handy file browser for your own files, with all sorts of sharing options not only within frostwire but on all the 3rd party social software you may have on your phone)

- Browse other people's files. You will be shown about 30 of the closest Androids running FrostWire near you (if you share your GPS location, you'll get people based on your location, if you don't you get people closer to your network address range)

- Search files. The search is relayed theoretically to millions of peers, however we only have a small network of a few hundred people online since we're getting started and we're still beta.

- Download files of course.

- Chat

- Send private messages

- You can also copy a file (from your files, when browsing others, or from search results) and then "Share" the file (like copy & paste, only it's now copy & share)

You can see some pictures of the application here
http://www.flickr.com/photos/frostwi...7624632093759/

And if you feel like trying it, you can already download it (absolutely free, with no ads, nags, or spyware) here
http://frostwire.com/android

Again, it's still beta, we're fixing a ton of bugs, and once we have a release we'll be on all the Android Markets we can find.
