New G1, major problems/questions! please help!

Hi i am a new G1 owner and i love my phone, but i have a few questions for it.

first, in messaging, is there any way to search for a contact in the 'To' field when writing a new message by typing that persons name?? the manual says type the number but really, you should be able to type just his name, right? i think thats quite a basic function so i'm sure im not exploring it correctly or something.

secondly, how the hell do you select multiple emails in the gmail app!? also quite a basic function that i am sure is there but i haven't found it or i've been doing something wrong.

thirdly, and i don't know if this can be fixed quite so immediately, is that I am from singapore and i am using an unlocked G1 with my SIM card here, but the GPRS/3G network is not working and i have found no way(even the carrier doesnt know what to do) to fix it. i dont know if the rules are the same overseas, i was wondering what feedback you guys could give me. and also, the GPS chip is not really working(my location and all that doesn't work, is it cause i am overseas?)


i know these are pretty basic questions but i am a new user to please go easy on me. i am just trying to find the best way to enjoy my phone!

For the messaging, you can just start typing in their name and it will give you a list of matches from your contacts.

As far as I am aware, there is no way to select multiple emails in the Gmail app.

Not sure how an unofficial unlocked G1 will react on other networks. It might be that the carrier you are using doesn't use the same wireless technologies for the GPRS/3G connections. The GPS chip should work anywhere in the world... GPS is GPS after all. You just have to ensure you have a clear view of the sky. It has to see at least 3 GPS satellites to properly pinpoint where you are.
