Moto Droid 1 slowing down

I'm experiencing some serious lag on my Droid. When clicking the Home button to exit an application, my desktop will display, but none of the icons appear for 30+ seconds. I assume it is because my internal storage is low (71.5MB free). I've moved all the applications that give the option to my SD card, and deleted all my sms messages.

I've considered rooting and overclocking, but I'm not sure that'll help.

Any advice?

It sounds like a free ram issue. I would suggest downloading an app killer and seeing what is running and taking up free ram. You can also try a different launcher than the stock one.

If the above does not work, you might want to try a hard reset especially if you have never done it since you have owned the phone. Make sure you back up everything that you need. It is a little bit of a pain, but it gets your phone working like new again.
