I am new to Android and recently purchased an LG Optimus V. I am looking for an easy way to sync my phone to Outlook, contacts, tasks, calendar, etc. My PC is Windows XP Home with Outlook 2003. I am thinking about the possibility dropping Outlook of switching everything to g mail but not sure if i want to go through the process.

MyPhoneExplorer should be your first port of call.
GoogleCalendar Sync works well for cloud syncing of Outlook.

Both are free

Thanks Spile, I spent a bunch of time educating myself over the weekend and went with gSyncit for my Outlook and Easy Phone Tunes (for i Tunes). sync. Both seem to work well so far. I was surprised how tightly Google controls your freedom when it comes to the Android operating system. As shamelessly as Apple if not worse. I was hoping to avoid using gmail but couldn't find a clean solution. I should have had a clue when I bought the phone, "with Google" is printed on the back of my Optimums V.

I had an i phone as my prior phone (via work) for the past two years. I had it configured to my liking within minutes. The Android on the other hand was much more of a headache. I chose Android strictly for financial purposes in regards to options on availability for the pay as you go plans.

I am no tech guy but once I get my Android dialed in I think I will ultimately prefer it over the i phone. The i phone's UI is in my opinion much cleaner and intuitive, where as the Android is blazing fast as compared to the i phone.

Thanks again

I use gSyncit as well. Not the most user-friendly solution but it gets the job done and done well.

For mail look into K-9 Mail. Lots and lots of menu settings but IMO a lot better than stock.

MyPhoneExplorer works fine for me and has a great UI for a free app.

If you want a free, automatic way to synchronize contacts between your Outlook PCs and your Android devices (without installing any third party software or apps), do a Google search on "We can now synchronize Outlook & Android" to find my how-to guide.

I used to use MyPhoneExplorer but it only synchronizes 16 of Outlook's most commonly used fields, and it only does so manually, and only when you're on the same network as your PC. It does not synchronize fields like "Business2 phone", "Categories", etc, and if you're not careful, it can delete them from Outlook (as it did to my contacts).

companionlink works for me too.
But mobisynapse's price is 1/5 of companionlink software! Save me $40!

and MyPhoneExplorer is free!
I've never had it lose any data as suggested above - read a few forums to confirm that this is unique to a very limited number of individuals who haven't use MPE for a long time and are probably unaware that it is in continual development.
It does also syncs automomatically - it is in the settings.
