Do I want to "root" my G1? Please help....

I really don't understand this. I see that Pterminal allows you root access to your G1 which in turn leads to the allowed usage of other programs? I guess that's right. Somebody fill me in here.....

I guess I can't get to root now that my update is on right? It took me like 3 hours to figure this all out. I just wanna be able to use my sd as internal memory

I need to know a few things if anybody can help. I got my G1 about a month ago. I knew nothing of all this business until like 2 days ago and didn't understand it until today. I need to know if I reset to factory will the RC30 still be there? Did my phone come stock RC30? Or was is 29 and updated to 30? What I'm gettin at is if I reset to factory can I go back to RC29 so I can use my sd as internal mem. That's all I wanna do.

The way i understand it (and the way it's been with past HTC handsets) is that if you restore factory settings the RC 30 firmware will still be installed.

The updates are stored on the phone and wont be erased should you decide to reset it to it's factory state.
