What is "Vanilla Android"?

This might be a stupid question coming from a member with over 200 postings, but I've been reading that the G2 will have Vanilla Android as opposed to HTC Sense. Now, I've seen pics of the ROM of the G2 running Vanilla, and I gotta say that it looks damn near the same as the build that my Nexus One is running (stock Froyo 2.2). So my question is, can anyone explain Vanilla for me, I'm kinda confused about what it is.

"Vanilla Android" is simply an install of Android without any customizations. HTC for example, will put Sense on their phones. Motorola might put Blur on some of theirs. Vanilla is what is straight from Google and has none of those customized interfaces or apps that the carriers put on the phone.

The Nexus One is one of the few phones that runs a "Vanilla" install of Android.
