Just picked up a G1 and I'm really disappointed in the delay I get when receiving email. I seem to be waiting up to 2 minutes for the G1 to beep after clicking the send button. I'm sending the email from the Gmail web client on my PC to myself, so there shouldn't be any delay as the mail sends across the internet...

I tested a blackberry last year, and the emails always arrived within 5 seconds of hitting the send button.

This makes me think either there's a problem with the Gmail push servers, or it's not using true push email (like Blackberry).

What delays are you guys getting?

p.s. I'm in the UK, and I'm using a "Google Apps for your domain" account.

Sorry I am not too familiar with how G1 service is working in the UK but here in the States I haven't experienced any delays; I literally receive my email within less than five seconds of sending it. Have you checked the data synchronization in your phone settings to make sure your gmail is set to auto sync?

Hi Teltel... MystryBabe recommended getting Momail (www.momail.co.uk)... (s)he says it helped with the push problem.

I haven't tried it because I don't really want to stop using the built in gmail app...

Teltel - are you in the UK?

Im in the UK and have no problems in general with the Gmail notifications. I'm at my laptop for the majority of the day with the G1 sat bleeping away next to me

On more than one instance however the notices have stopped - i've had to restart the handset to get them functioning again.

Can you time the delay between sending a mail from your PC and receiving email on your handset?

Try it five or ten times to get an average...

Maybe it's my handset that's set up wrong...
